People of Palestine | The 1920s Photos of Frank Scholten

Frank Scholten, Palestine, 1921-23
Frank Scholten (1881–1942), a Dutch photographer and author, documented Palestine between 1921 and 1923 with a notably inclusive, non-partisan approach that contrasted with many of his European contemporaries.
His work, which aimed to create an illustrated Bible (La Palestine illustrée), ultimately captured a complex social mosaic, focusing on daily life across religious and ethnic lines, encompassing over 20,000 images—approximately 12,000 negatives and 14,000 prints.
