With Rupture, his first short, co-written and co-directed by Jean-Claude CarrièrePierre Étaix made the leap from music hall to  motion pictures. Shot and released in 1961, Rupture received the Fipresci Prize in Mannheim and the Grand Prize at the Oberhausen Festival.
