“A Merrier Christmas” was a composition that Thelonious Monk wrote for his family, and he never recorded it. It was later recorded by Monk’s son, and also by Dianne Reeves Music and Benny Green, but Monk himself decided to keep the piece private during his lifetime. According to the recollections of Monk’s son, the piece was written in the early 1960s.
