At times we at least give ourselves the benefit of the doubt regarding our acts of sabotage, keep within us a tiny gleam of the truth so we can re-establish exactly how events actually occurred, but far more often the opposite happens: we forget the initial lie or the very fact that it’s a lie to begin with.”
