Etel Adnan (1925–2021) was a self-taught abstract artist, poet, and novelist born in Beirut to a Greek mother and Syrian father. After studying philosophy at the Sorbonne, UC Berkeley, and Harvard, she taught in California, where she created artwork in various media, including oil paintings, films, and tapestries. Renowned for her vibrant minimalist landscapes and landmark novel Sitt Marie Rose, her artistic work earned permanent acclaim in major institutions like MoMA and the Guggenheim.
