Floating bubble series | Melvin Sokolsky / Hieronymus Bosch

Melvin Sokolsky (born in 1938) is an American fashion photographer and film director. In the pre-war years, so during the war when there wasn’t much for him to do he would read books and spend his time at the museum. His iconic Bubble series was created for Harper’s Bazaar 1963, Spring Collection. The series was inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights, a triptych painted by the Early Netherlandish master Hieronymus Bosch and by the Surrealism movement. It depicts the model Simone D’Aillencourt ”floating” in giant clear plastic bubbles suspended in midair above the River Seine in Paris.
